Our Approach

What is my food philosophy? – One size does not fit all!

Just like no two snowflakes are the same, neither is the human body. Each individual has their own unique biochemical make-up. What this means is that what works for one individual in achieving optimal health may not work for another. It is true that, at a basic level, we all have the same biological functions; however, one person may need more of a specific nutrient in order to perform the same physiological process. To give one example: one individual may need 5000mg of vitamin C daily in order to maintain a healthy immune system, while another may suffice with just 1000mg.

Because of this fact, my food philosophy is based on an individualized approach. There is no “one size fits all” program. Everyone has different needs, and it’s my goal to work with you in catering an approach that helps to meet your individual needs.

What is your approach to nutrition and health?

Individual approach – As described in my food philosophy, there is no “one size fits all” approach to nutrition. Two individuals may have the same health issues, but this does not mean that they have the same root cause. As such, my approach involves working with each client to personalize a nutrition plan that meets their unique needs.

Collaboration – Providing guidance and education is my role as you move through your journey towards greater health and vitality. Offering a supportive role in providing direction and addressing your questions and concerns, our partnership is a two-way street. To achieve optimal results, every client needs to be ready to be an active participant in their own care.

Holistic health – The mind-body-spirit connection is so important when it comes to optimal health and well-being. Each one can affect the other, and when we don’t take care of one aspect of this important triad, the other areas are bound to suffer. A comprehensive intake assessment examines all areas of mental, physical and spiritual health so that nothing is overlooked. Not only will we talk about how you can improve your health through nutrition, but other areas will be explored to ensure health in all aspects of your life.

Science-based – As each person has their own unique biochemical make-up, nutrition is not an exact science. However, the counselling and recommendations that are made with each visit are based on scientific literature, results from clinical experience, and evidence-based research. I use scientifically-based assessment tools, such as the Biochemical Individuality Assessment, Hair Element Analysis, Food Sensitivity Testing and more to create a comprehensive picture of your health and wellness needs.

Healthy gut, healthy life – For many, the root cause of their health issues can be related back to poor gut health and poor digestion. For this reason, improving gut health will often be the main focus. With improved digestion, many clients will notice improvements in energy levels, mood, inflammation, immune health, weight loss, and pain levels.

Smart supplementation – Many practitioners can get caught up in using supplements much like doctors use prescription medications – as a “band-aid approach”, without addressing the root cause of the person’s health issues. While supplements may be used in working with clients, the main focus will be to address the root cause of your health issues so that you do not need to take them for the rest of your life. (However, it is important to note that some people may have health conditions or genetic differences that necessitate the need for life-long supplementation in order to achieve their optimal health. The need for this will be assessed on an ongoing basis.)

As human beings, I believe we all have inherent rights. One of those rights is a right to health. However, many people are either lacking the relevant knowledge, or they are drowning beneath the sea of information that we now have at our fingertips. But how do you weed through the information to know which is based in fact (when everyone has an opinion) or which will work best for you and your individual needs? And how do you integrate the information, or know which information applies to you?

That’s where I come in. Through education, collaboration, and the creation of an environment of accountability, I will work with you to help you take control of your health and your life.

Education – Understanding why a particular diet, supplement, or health strategy has been recommended for you is just as important as the recommendation itself. Many studies have shown that people are more likely to stay motivated to stick with dietary or lifestyle changes if they understand why they are being asked to do it in the first place. Through one-on-one discussions during our consults, as well as through various educational materials and resources, I will help you to obtain the knowledge you need to obtain your health goals.

Collaboration – I will work with you to create goals that are appropriate and attainable, and provide guidance, education, and support to help you reach those goals. I am here to work with you in a compassionate environment where you feel like your needs are being met. You should never feel pressured to do something that you are not comfortable with. I will work with you, within your comfort zone, wherever you are in your health journey.

Accountability – Accepting responsibility for your own health is one of the key steps in initiating the change you want to see. With my programs/protocols, there are various key ways that help you stay attuned to your personal goals:

  • Availability of regular check-ins as part of an individualized nutrition plan to monitor progress, increase accountability, and address any questions or concerns. (You decide on the frequency of contact by choosing the package that best suits your needs.)
  • Availability via e-mail (during business hours) to answer questions relating to your nutrition goals*.
  • Recommendations for various phone apps to help keep you on track with your goals.
  • Access to a private Facebook group so you can stay connected with other individuals and support each other in your individual health journeys*.
  • Additional nutrition and health education via Instagram to help keep you motivated.
